LINQ TECH NOTE #5

PREFABRICATED DRAINAGE COMPOSITES:

BATTLE DRAIN™ INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

LINQ prefabricated drainage composites can be installed either horizontal or vertical to the surface of the wall. To join more than one section:

  1. Peel back 3 inches of the nonwoven geotextile from the core
  2. Overlap the core material approximately 1˝ inches
  3. Secure the overlap
  4. Re-cover the lap with the loose fold of geotextile.

Attachment

Attachment of the drainage system to the wall will hold it in place during the backfilling operation. The Battle Drain material may be secured to the wall by driving nails through protective washers or wood strips into the wall, or by gluing with construction or mastic glue. The geotextile should be tucked under and behind the bottom and top edge of the core ensuring permeable separation of the Battle Drain core with all backfill material. Some sensitive waterproofing systems may require that a geotextile be used as a protective layer to separate and protect the waterproofed wall from Battle Drain. Refer to the manufacturer's recommendations and select from several LINQ geotextiles suitable for this application.

Drainage Collection System

When a drainage collection system such as a perforated pipe or open graded aggregate is used, a separate section of geotextile may be used to encapsulate the collection system and the bottom of the Battle Drain core, as described below:

  1. Position and attach Battle Drain to the wall
  2. Peel the fabric off the face of the drain core to at least the height of the collection system
  3. Place the drainage aggregate or perforated pipe
  4. Warp the loose section of geotextile around the aggregate or perforated pipe and tuck against the exposed core. Overlap the loose geotextile from the face of the core and secure in place.
  5. Backfill.

The Battle Drain core is easily cut to fit around any fitting or penetrations with the geotextile folded around the exposed core edge to prevent soil fines from entering the core.
